About DAHA
DAHA runs the stables in Dhahran as a non-profit, self-directed group, governed by its members through an elected Board of Directors. All of the stables' revenue goes back into the stabling and care of the horses, the facilities and our activities. Horse care and riding follow the standards of the British Horse Society (BHS) and the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI).
Life at the farm
- Daily care. The Stable Manager and our grooms look after every horse: stalls cleaned, feeding, and a shower or grooming session each day.
- Riding lessons and schooling. Lessons are given by DAHA instructors, on your own horse or on a DAHA lesson horse. Riders must be at least 6 years old.
- Facilities. Arenas, running pens, a hot walker, a vet room and a farrier room. Apart from assigned stalls and tack boxes, facilities are shared by all members equally.
- Vet and farrier. Veterinary care is provided by the Arabian Kennel Club (AKC), and farriers visit regularly.
- Events. Gymkhanas, equitation events, Pony Club and other activities through the year.
- Dog park. Free for members to use.
- The DAHA app. Members book lessons, follow the farm calendar and keep their horse's records in the DAHA app.
Membership types
Regular
SAR 500 per year
For horse owners: you own a horse and keep it full time at the stables, in your own stall. A member can keep up to two horses.
Associate
SAR 500 per year
For riders without their own horse at DAHA who have regular access to one: riding privileges from an owner, or lessons on a DAHA lesson horse.
Affiliate
SAR 250 per year
For everyone who doesn't use the stables or ride regularly: join DAHA events and programs such as Pony Club, and receive member news and updates.
Membership runs for the calendar year and is renewed every year. If you join on or after 1 July, the fee for that year is halved. A family membership includes your dependents (children under 26 who are not in full-time employment).
Voting and standing for office. DAHA is run by its members through an elected Board of Directors: President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, each elected for two years at the annual general meeting in mid-November.
- Voting is for Regular Members: one vote per Regular Membership (family or single) in elections and on other motions. On financial matters, such as an extraordinary expenditure over SAR 40,000, a Regular Member on family status has one vote per horse (up to two), and on single status one vote. Absentee ballots and written proxies are provided for members out of the Kingdom.
- Nominating candidates is open to adult Regular and Associate Members.
- Standing for office is open to Regular Members of at least six months, in good standing with DAHA and free from any Recreation Services violations in the past four years. Officers may not earn an income from DAHA while on the Board, and the Business Manager and Stable Manager can't serve on it. An Associate Member may stand in for an officer other than the President for up to two months.
- Affiliate Members don't vote or stand for office.
See the DAHA Constitution, articles 4 and 5.
Who can join
Membership is open to Saudi Aramco employees (GC 11 and above) and their dependents who are eligible to use the family camp recreation facilities and have a personal Dhahran P.O. Box, whether or not they live in camp. It is also open to residents of Dhahran camp, as set out in the Recreation Operations Manual. On the application you'll be asked whether you are an active GC 11+ employee, a female GC 8+ employee with GC 11+ privileges, a contractor residing on camp, or an executive retiree. For active employees the membership fee is deducted from payroll; contractors and retirees pay in cash or by bank transfer.
For everyone's safety, new Regular and Associate members complete a short assessment of safe handling, horse care and the DAHA Rules & Regulations. If needed, a free New Horse Owner Course follows.
What you'll need to apply
- Your badge number and your personal Dhahran mailbox number.
- Your company email address, plus a private email address for all DAHA communication.
- Proof of your ID and your dependents:
The easiest way: take a photo of the digital ID badges in the MySecurity app with another phone, and upload it straight from that phone. Fill in the application on a second phone or a tablet; at the upload, choose "Take Photo" and photograph the badge on your own phone's screen.
- Your digital ID badge from the MySecurity app (Saudi Aramco no longer issues physical ID cards).
- The badges of your dependents aged 12 or older.
- If you can't use MySecurity: from the Aramco MyHome portal, your Employment Certificate ("Employment Certificates" tile, "Service Date, Job Title and Address") plus a screenshot of the "My Family" tile.
- Camp residents who are not Aramco employees: a photo of your ID, and of your dependents aged 12 or older.
- Your dependents' full names, and an emergency contact.
The application asks you to agree to the DAHA Constitution and the DAHA Rules & Regulations, so please read them first.
Bringing a horse?
Horse owners are Regular members, and membership comes first. Once your membership is approved, the Stable Manager starts your horse transfer in the DAHA app: the stall offer, the horse admission application and your horse's arrival, with quarantine if it comes from outside. Stalls depend on availability; when the stables are full, there is a waiting list.
- Horse owners must be members of the Arabian Kennel Club (AKC) and register their horse with them.
- A refundable stall deposit is paid per horse, and a monthly service charge per stall covers basic care. Feed and other services are billed monthly.
- Stallions and pregnant mares can't be admitted, and there are special rules for horses under 3 years old.
